  "Confirmation bias is a tendency for people to favor information that confirms their preconceptions or hypotheses whether or not it is true. As a result, people gather evidence and recall information from memory selectively, and interpret it in a biased way. The biases appear in particular for emotionally significant issues and for established beliefs." I wouldn't normally use a quote from Wikipedia as a blurb for a talk, but there is a very good reason in this case. Tonight's speaker, Martin Poulter, rewrote the entire Confirmation Bias article on Wikipedia over a period of several months. His efforts were recognised, when his article was made Wikipedia's "Featured Article" for Friday 23 July 2010. These articles are considered to be the best articles in Wikipedia, and as such just 0.09% of articles are held in such regard. In tonight's talk, Martin will explain exactly what confirmation bias is and how it can lead us to make bad decisions, and continue to hold our false preconceptions as true. Martin Poulter first encountered skepticism while a teenager. He has a Philosophy and Psychology degree from Oxford University and a PhD in Philosophy of Science from the University of Bristol.   I recently came across a web site that actually tickles my appetite and the reason for this is because they have boat loads of recipes. Not JUST recipes now, these recipes are mainly from the islands, and being a native myself, my mouth waters just thinking about it Upon arrival at their home page I was extremely impressed, because everything was easily accessible and entertaining. While the home page was inclusive of advertisements, they were committed to their readers, in other words the advertisements were not overwhelming by any means. Their home page included a headliner article, along with several other featured articles. Naturally the most interesting section on this website was the recipe index. Not being able to contain myself for much longer, I dived right in and I was not disappointed in the least. Considering the fact that they have been around for about four years, it is no surprise that the recipes were so extensive. One of my favorite foods in Trinidad is doubles, therefore I found myself looking for a recipe to make it myself. In order to find a recipe, all it would take would be to enter a search for doubles, right? Well I got more than I bargained for, in fact you would think that I would know better. The search turned up anything with the word doubles in it, including several interesting articles. I have found my recipe and I plan to be adventurous in the very near future. Now I realize that much of the content on this website will only interest people <b>...</b>

  How to safely connect a power backu...
  The safest way to connect a generator to your home involves a transfer switch with an interlock mechanism to prevent backfeeding into your main panel. Backfeeding could cause series injury or even death to an unsuspecting line worker, so don't do it! When it comes to wiring up a generator don't cut corners....do it the right way by hiring a professional to wire up a switch that's compatible with your generator. I use a Briggs and Stratton standby generator that uses a GFCI outlet which requires a transfer switch that isolates the neutral between the generator and the main supply panel.
